Twenty presidential appointees at the Bureau of Customs (BOC), including assistant and deputy commissioners, have tendered their courtesy resignation to give newly installed Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero a free hand in picking his staff.

BOC spokesperson Atty. Erastus Sandino Austria said that also among those to resign were directors II and III and collectors VI.

“This is a sign of support and solidarity with the new Customs chief to allow him to choose the people who will work closely with him in carrying out the directives of the President,” Austria said on November 19.

Accepting or declining the resignation will depend on Duterte.

Earlier, Guerrero recommended retired lieutenant general Donato San Juan II as deputy commissioner of Internal Administration Group (IAG), and retired brigadier general Raniel Ramiro as deputy commissioner of the Intelligence Group (IG), replacing Gladys Rosales and Ricardo Quinto, respectively, both of whom have left BOC.

San Juan and Ramiro, as well as Guerrero, were from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Maharlika” Class of 1984.

San Juan is currently acting deputy commissioner of IAG, while Ramiro is acting deputy commissioner of IG as both wait for their appointment papers to be issued.
