MAS_40YRSSeven Malaysian airlines have joined forces to form the Association of Malaysian Air Carriers (AMAC).

The founding airlines of the association are Malaysia Airlines Bhd, MASwings, Firefly, AirAsia Bhd, AirAsia X Bhd, Malindo Air, and Berjaya Air, said Bernama in a new report.

The association, which is open to all Malaysian air carriers, still needs the approval of the carriers’ respective boards and the nod of the Registrar of Society.

AMAC aims to provide a common platform for the discussion of issues affecting the industry, Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia said in recent statement.

With all the main airline operators in the country represented in the association, it will serve as the voice of the industry and represent common industry interests before government institutions such as the Ministry of Transport, Department of Civil Aviation, and Malaysian Aviation Commission.

AMAC will tackle issues such as enhancig air traffic control services, aero-political developments, safety and security standards in airports, charging regimes, and other related concerns.

By uniting, the airlines will also strive to promote healthier growth for the industry and create high-quality jobs for the sector and the broader aviation ecosystem.
