Deutsche Post DHL, the world’s leading postal and logistics group, said it will set up additional hubs in Asia as it forecasts that the region will contribute one-third to its revenues by 2017 from almost one-fifth currently.

Germany’s Deutsche Post said in a statement that it plans to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific by investing in more facilities in the region, including the US$175 million DHL Express North Asia Hub at Shanghai Pudong International Airport in China.

The hub will enable the firm to guarantee time-definite delivery to major cities in northern Asia and beyond, it added.

The DHL Supply Chain will also shortly open a “mega hub” in Hong Kong, which bundles four warehouses into one to enhance operational efficiency, the Bonn-based company said.

DHL Global Forwarding will likewise soon inaugurate a new operations hub in the region to further reduce transit times and save costs by consolidating shipments from customers in various Asian markets before exporting them to the rest of the world.

Frank Appel, group CEO, said in a press conference in Shanghai on July 11 that the company “is well placed to capitalize on the expected acceleration of transport and trade of products within Asia, as well as between Asia and other emerging markets in the Middle East, Africa and Latin America.”
