Geneva-based carrier Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) released a series of bulletins on general rate increases (GRIs) affecting its Asia loops.

From August 15, MSC said a GRI of US$500 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU) will be imposed on all export cargo from Asia to South America East Coast.

From September 1, rate hikes will also be implemented on Asian cargo exported to New Zealand, the United States and Puerto Rico.

The new rate for New Zealand will be higher by $300 per TEU.

For shipments to the U.S. West Coast and Puerto Rico, rate increases are as follows: $400 per TEU, $500 per 24-foot equivalent unit, and $550 per 40-foot high-cube container.

In addition, there will be a peak season surcharge (PSS) for the Southeast Asia-Australia trade of $300 per TEU. The PSS starts September 15.
