Freight forwarder Dachser’s Air & Sea Logistics division plans to open offices in 21 new countries and expand its activities in Vietnam as it shifts  focus to emerging markets.

Dachser said that while China-Europe and China-U.S. are its traditional trade lanes, it is beginning to see opportunities in other countries.

“When we talk about retail and fashion, it can be seen that trades have switched from China toward countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan and Vietnam,” said Thomas Reuter, managing director of the Air & Sea Logistics division. “But also, other countries are becoming more and more important … like Colombia or Indonesia.”

The Germany-based logistics provider forecast that the air and sea freight business is headed for volatile times, affected as it is by gloomy global economic conditions, but said that expansion can improve the industry outlook.
