Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) reported that cargo volume grew in August from the same period last year, and said it expects the upward trend to continue through the remaining months of the year.
HKIA said cargo throughout rose by 3 percent to 328,000 tonnes last month, reflecting a 3 percent year-on-year increase in export volume.
Cargo throughput to and from Japan and Southeast Asia outperformed other key regions, the company said in a press statement yesterday.
In July, HKIA saw its cargo volume decline 1.6 percent year-on-year to 335,000 tonnes.
For the first eight months of the year, HKIA processed 2.6 million tonnes of cargo, representing a growth of 0.2 percent from a year earlier.
On a rolling 12-month basis, cargo tonnage decreased 2.2 percent to 3.9 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, Singapore’s Changi Airport Group said on Friday that the airport handled 1.87 million tonnes of cargo during the financial year ended 31 March 2012, an increase of 2.3 percent compared to the previous year.
