THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) will likely miss its July collection target with most of its major districts falling short of their revenue goals for the month.

For the period covering July 1 to 21, the agency took in P13.11 billion, 11% less than its P14.77-billion goal.

The BOC has another seven working days to plug the more than P13-billion gap needed to reach the entire month’s target of P26.17 billion, P2 billion more than the same month last year’s actual collection of P24.15 billion.

The oil ports of Batangas and Limay posted the biggest collection shortfall in July with a combined P1.22 billion while the country’s top two major ports — the Manila International Container Port and the Port of Manila (POM) — also saw their targets slip.

POM’s collection was down by P314 million against its goal of P3.28 billion; MICP’s was P174 million less than its P4.11-billion target.

In the first six months of the year, BOC posted a surplus of P6.4 billion.

Earlier, the Development Budget Coordination Committee said it will increase the BOC’s P275.68-billion target this year by another P5 billion.
