Groundbreaking ceremonies at the Kalibaru Container Terminal site of the New Tanjung Priok Port project in Kalibaru, North Jakarta, Indonesia, are scheduled to be held this month.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is expected to lead the groundbreaking rites at the container terminal area.
“We are still awaiting confirmation to adjust the President’s schedule with the inauguration [of the] Kalibaru groundbreaking,” RJ Lino, president director of Indonesia Port Corporation, was quoted in a report published on the IPC website.
State-owned port operator IPC acquired the concession right to operate the New Tanjung Priok port, to become Indonesia’s biggest, for 70 years, with an option to renew its concession for another 25 years.
The Kalibaru Container Terminal is part of the first phase of construction and is scheduled to begin operation in 2014. The second phase will be undertaken from 2018 to 2022.
