Hong Kong-based liner operator Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) is increasing freight rates on a number of Asia services effective April 2013.

On its Europe-Asia trade, the box ship plans to impose a general rate increase (GRI) on all cargo loading on or after April 1 “to maintain a viable service level and a comprehensive liner network,” the company said. The GRIs are $200 per TEU (20-foot-equivalent unit) and $300 per 40-foot-equivalent unit of container.

Earlier, OOCL announced higher rates as well on its Asia-New Zealand and Southeast Asia-Australia services with effect from April 1.

Freight rates for traffic from Asia to New Zealand will be increased by $250 per TEU, while those for shipments from Southeast Asia (Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Indian Subcontinent and Middle East) to Australia will be raised by $200 per TEU.
