Zurich-based Swiss WorldCargo, the air cargo division of Swiss International Air Lines, will provide daily nonstop flights to Singapore starting next month.
The new service will have its inaugural flight on May 12, 2013, and connect the city-state to the airline’s global network with Airbus A340 aircraft.
Singapore is one of the world’s top air cargo hubs and a leader in various manufacturing sectors such as electronics, precision engineering, and chemicals. More than 30 biomedical science companies have established regional headquarters in the country.
The Lion City also has other industries, such as medical and health-care technology, IT products, and clean energy.
All of the company’s products and services, such as SWISS General Cargo, SWISS Mail, and SWISS °Celsius Active will be offered on the Singapore flight.
Last month, the carrier announced the launch of its SWISS °Celsius Passive designed to meet the needs of the pharmaceutical industry.
Complementing the SWISS °Celsius Active, the SWISS °Celsius Passive focuses on the transport of temperature-sensitive shipments in passive packaging solutions.
“Pharmaceutical and health-care companies are investing more and more in sophisticated passive packaging solutions for their time- and temperature-sensitive shipments,” said Markus Scheuber, product manager for SWISS °Celsius at Swiss WorldCargo. “However, it is not all about packaging; these health-care shipments rely on high-quality standardized processes, speed, and adequate storage wherever possible.”
Swiss °Celsius Passive offers a choice of three official IATA temperature ranges— “refrigerated,” “controlled-room temperature,” and “deep frozen.”
Standardized processes ensure that temperature-sensitive cargo is stored in the required temperature environment as fast as possible, the company said in a statement. Moreover, the extremely short distances between the aircraft position and the warehouse in its Zurich hub, mainly covered by a tunnel, ensure limited exposure to outside conditions.
