Subic Bay, three hours north of the Philippine capital Manila, is now a port of call for steel pipe shipments headed to the United States and Canada.

The pipes, carried on containerized and breakbulk vessels, are manufactured by HLD Clark Steel Pipe Co. Inc, which appointed AAI Freightmovers Worldwide Inc as its logistics service provider for the move.

Between January and April this year, consignments ranging from 8,500 metric tons to 14,000 mt of steel pipes to multiple importers in Houston, Texas and Vancouver, Canada have been made using a chartered ship for each destination.

The first shipments were serviced  by AAI Freightmovers Worldwide on four breakbulk vessels chartered by HLD China. Another vessel is scheduled to arrive in late May to load around 10,000 mt of steel pipes.

It takes around 18 days to transport the pipes from Subic to Houston and 25 days from Subic to Vancouver.

The vessel call was concluded during the Subic Bay Maritime Conference and Exhibit held in Subic Bay in August last year.
