Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) reported a 1.8 percent growth in cargo movements in May year-over-year as export and transshipment volumes expanded.
Airfreight volume for the month rose to 339,000 tonnes, up 6,000 tonnes from the same period the preceding year, according to a statement from Airport Authority Hong Kong, HKIA’s operator and developer.
The increase was driven mainly by exports and transshipments, which were up 1 percent and 4 percent, respectively, versus a year ago. Cargo traffic to and from North America outperformed other key regions.
Over the first five months of 2013, shipments at HKIA grew 2.2 percent to 1.6 million tonnes, while traffic on a rolling 12-month basis climbed nearly 4.06 million tonnes, representing a 3.5 percent growth.
