Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd is implementing a peak season surcharge (PSS) on all shipments on the Far East-North America trade lane effective August.

The PSS for all dry, reefer, flat-rack, and open-top containers from East Asia, India, and Indian Sub-Continent to all destinations in Canada and the United States will be levied beginning August 1.

The surcharge for the trans-Pacific trade eastbound is US$320 per 20-foot standard container, $400 per 40-foot standard container, $450 per 40-foot high-cube container, and $506 per 45-foot container.

East Asia is defined as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, and the Russian Pacific Coast provinces.

The Indian Sub-Continent covers Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
