Myamnar is planning a deepwater port in Kalargote in the southern state of Mon that will process bulk and container cargoes.
The Kalargote seaport reportedly will be built between Mawlamyaing, the capital of Mon, and Yay, strategically located to connect southern Myanmar to Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.
It will be 1,450 kilometers long and 4.8 kilometers wide, and aims to load between 40,000 tons and 50,000 tons of goods.
The port is seen to boost the economy in the south, propelling the growth of industrial zones, manufacturing industries, and hotels in the area.
The government also intends to bolster power supply to the area by setting up new power stations between 2014 and 2016.
