Overseas Orient Container Lines (OOCL) has christened its latest newbuild acquisition OOCL Bangkok, a 13,208-TEU vessel for deployment on the Asia-Europe trade this year.
At the naming ceremony held at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea, C. C. Tung, OOCL group chairman, said their continued investments in these 13,000-TEU vessels “will be an important part to improving our competitive edge as the new generation of ships are designed and built with better efficiency in mind.”
The box ship will serve on the Loop 5 service of the Asia-Europe trade lane. Her port rotation is Kwangyang, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Shekou, Singapore, via the Suez Canal, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Southampton, via the Suez Canal, Singapore, and back to Kwangyang on a 77-day round trip.
Meanwhile, OOCL said the G6 Alliance, of which it is a member, has cancelled two voyages for early October in connection with the national holiday in China.
The void sailings will be on the Loop 7 service on week 41 and the EUM service on week 41.
The other members of the consortium are APL, Hapag-Lloyd, Hyundai Merchant Marine, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and Nippon Yusen Kaisha.
