United Parcel Service (UPS) has expanded its preferred less-than-container load (LCL) expedited ocean freight service to include the Asia-Mexico trade lanes.

The service is now available to shipments from Asia to three destinations in Mexico—Monterrey, Mexico City, and Guadalajara.

The preferred LCL service provides up to 20 percent faster port-to-door delivery for LCL shipments while delivering the economic advantages of ocean freight, said the company.

The service also provides product visibility technologies to give shippers more control of their inbound supply chain operations.

Global advisory firm Seabury Group forecasts growing trade between Asia and Mexico, with ocean lane imports from the latter estimated to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 12.1 percent through 2016, compared to 6.5 percent growth projection globally, UPS said.

“We continue to see retail, industrial, and automotive companies looking for additional freight transportation options, allowing them to increase their speed to market without dramatically increasing their transportation costs and without having to sacrifice product visibility,” said Keith Andrey, vice president of UPS ocean freight services.

UPS already provides preferred LCL service from 27 Asian ports to the United States and Canada.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-based package delivery service, the world’s biggest, announced it will release its third-quarter results on October 25, 2013.
