Danish oil and  shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk has agreed to partner with top Indonesian port operator Pelindo II and pour more infrastructure resources into Indonesia as part of its move to focus on new markets outside of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries.

“Indonesia is already an important market for Maersk, and we are interested in committing more of our resources to expand our operations in the country,” said Nils Andersen, CEO of A.P. Moller-Maersk, during the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two companies on September 21, 2011 at the Maersk headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The MOU outlines a plan to train and develop Pelindo II staff as well as provide consultancy support in improving operational efficiency in one of the Pelindo II facilities.

A.P. Moller-Maersk has been present in Indonesia since 1958, operating through shipping lines Maersk Line, Safmarine, MCC Transport, and the company’s logistics arm, Damco.
