Supply chain services provider Yusen Logistics recently added to its less-than-container load network a weekly consolidation service from Cambodia to Osaka, Japan, as it continues to strengthen its LCL operations in Asia.

“In recent years, Asia has become the center of global economic development,” said Hideo Saito, senior vice president and general manager of the company’s international division. “We’re developing our LCL product to offer our retail customers a diverse range of services and access to this burgeoning market.”

The company began the new Cambodia-Osaka service on November 1, 2013, and plans to stretch the service to Tokyo later.

The launch of the route follows the addition of export lanes from Japan to Vietnam, the Philippines, and Malaysia in 2012, and import lanes from the Philippines and Taiwan to Japan in June this year.

Yusen Logistics, which has its global headquarters in Tokyo, now has a total of 222 lanes.

“Cambodia is transitioning from a pre-emerging market to an emerging market, so we see huge growth potential,” said Saito. “Labor rates have significantly risen in China, so manufacturers are moving their factories to Cambodia, which has one of Asia’s lowest-cost workforces. We expect to see more companies shifting their production to Cambodia, as well as other countries in Asia.”
