Intra-Asia shipping and logistics company SITC announced the completion on December 28 of the second phase of its logistics facility in Dinh Vu Port, Hai Phong City, Vietnam.

Phase two has an investment cost of US$6 million and occupies a total area of 50,000 square meters, which consists of a 44,800-square-meter depot, a 1,200-square-meter office building, and a 4,000-square-meter warehouse.

Both phases, with a combined area of 80,000 square meters, are now operational, said a company release.

The third stage, with an area of 63,000 square meters, is under construction and scheduled for completion in the second half of 2014.

Once finished, the supply chain hub will have an aggregate space of 143,000 square meters and a processing capacity of 720,000 twenty-foot-equivalent units annually.

SITC-Dinhvu Logistics Co. said it has already signed work contracts with several companies, including shipping lines Maersk Line, CMA CGM, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and Nippon Yusen Kaisha.

Meanwhile, a new customs office has opened at the international seaport in Binh Duong, a province in southeastern Vietnam and one of the country’s biggest economic hubs.

The customs office is seen to facilitate administrative and customs procedures for export-import activities in the region, according to local reports.

It will also cut transport cost and save time for traders because they no longer have to travel to Ho Chi Minh City to complete customs procedures.
