FedExFedEx Express has opened new gateway and clearance facilities in Manila and Cebu worth a combined P500 million that the world’s largest express transport company expects will increase its processing capacity for inbound and outbound shipments in the Philippines.

The Manila gateway occupies a 4,532-square-meter warehouse at the international cargo terminal at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The facility handles 14 inbound and outbound flights every week, processing international shipments from more than 220 points in the global network of Federal Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp.

The gateway has a newly installed sorting system that can process as many as 3,000 packages an hour, enhancing the firm’s capacity to handle the large volume of international shipments daily.

The Cebu clearance and sorting facility at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has a 1,136 sqm area. It is equipped with a sorting mechanism that can handle as many as 1,500 packages per hour to facilitate faster processing of shipments bound for Visayas and Mindanao.

“FedEx Express will continue to enhance its operations to support trade growth in the Philippines and address an increasing need for faster and more efficient delivery of shipments to our customers,” said Rhicke Jennings, managing director for the Philippines and Indonesia.

“Inaugurating our new gateway and clearance facilities in Manila and Cebu reinforces our long-term investment commitment to the Philippines and to providing our customers with service excellence,” said Jennings.
