Maersk Line, the world’s biggest cargo shipping company, announced general rate increases (GRIs) from the U.S. to Asia starting November 15, 2011.

The Copenhagen-based global containerized division of A.P. Moller – Maersk Group will impose a rate hike of $180 per 20-foot container and $200 for every 40-foot container, high-cube, and 45-foot container, according to an online report from The Journal of Commerce.

The increases cover all westbound cargo shipped from ports in the U.S., Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands to ports in Asia, including Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
