Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) has deployed more heavy-lift mobile equipment at Manila South Harbor to further boost the material-handling capability and versatility of its General Stevedoring Division (GSD).
Four Konecranes forklifts, with a safe workload of 15 tons each, have been deployed to GSD’s equipment fleet to ensure safer and more efficient handling of commodities such as steel coils, steel beams, billets, boxed palettes, bagged cargoes, and other non-containerized shipments.
The forklifts are powered by low-emission engines providing extra high torque at low revs, reduced fuel consumption, and low noise levels. Further, these are equipped with electronic weigh scales, engine and transmission protection system, reverse camera, on-board fire suppression system, beacon lights, and automatic ignition switch-off during long idling in line with ATI’s commitment to safe and environment-friendly port operations.
ATI’s latest acquisition forms part of its most aggressive capital investment program in over three decades that is also in line with its development commitments to state-owned Philippine Ports Authority.
Recently, the company increased its rubber-tired gantry cranes to 23, and in February, deployed six side loaders which speed up the evacuation of empty boxes for a quicker turnaround trip for truckers.
For this year, ATI is investing a minimum P2.8 billion to be followed by P3.1 billion and P2.1 billion in 2016 and 2017.
