Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced changes to flight movements beginning this month with the reopening of the secondary airway at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) designed to improve traffic and runway utilization.
Starting August 15, international flights operating out of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4 will move to NAIA Terminal 3, as the former reverts to an all-domestic terminal.
MIAA, in a statement, said this comes after the reactivation of the secondary runway, Runway 31, and is in compliance with requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
The new scheme will require the transfer of all large aircraft such as jets or Airbus A320s operating out of Terminal 4 to Terminal 3. Smaller aircraft such as turboprop or ATR aircraft will be transferred from Terminal 3 to Terminal 4.
Three Air Asia flights to Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai will move to Terminal 3. A total of 24 Cebgo flights will likewise transfer to and operate out of Terminal 3, while 20 Cebu Pacific Air flights—mostly flights to Caticlan, Busuanga, Laoag, and Naga—will move to Terminal 4.
“With the reactivation of runway 31, flight movements can now take place concurrently on both runways. Management is hopeful that this will further ease aircraft traffic at the NAIA,” MIAA general manager Jose Angel Honrado noted.
Aside from the transfer of flights between Terminals 3 and 4, new markings and information markers have been installed on the secondary runway, MIAA said.
In July last year, five foreign airlines transferred from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 as the latter became fully operational.
