Cargoes handled by international air freight forwarders operating in the Philippines declined 7.7% in 2015 to 299.91 million kilograms from 324.76 million kg in 2014, latest data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) showed.
For seven straight years, Nippon Express Philippines, Inc. has remained the top international air freight forwarder, contributing the highest volume and having the largest market share.
Consolidations, which made up 43.16% of the Philippines’ total air freight volume, fell 10.7% to 129.45 million kg from 139.60 million kg in 2014.
Breakbulk shipments, which accounted for 36.58%, likewise dropped 6.3% to 109.69 million kg from 117.10 million kg while direct shipments decreased 7% to 60.76 million kg from 68.06 million kg.
In 2015, Nippon Express carried 44.57 million kg, representing 14.86% of the total. DHL Global Forwarding (Phils), Inc. followed, jumping one spot to second with 19.11 million kg or 6.37%. Also moving one spot higher to third place was Trans-global Consolidators, Inc. with 17.08 million kg or 5.69%. Yusen Logistics Phils., Inc. came after, dropping two places to fourth with 16.58 million kg or 5.53% of the total.
Advancing two places to fifth was Schenker Philippines, Inc. with 15.84 million kg or 5.28%, replacing Kintetsu World Express Phil., Inc., which slid to sixth with 14.93 million kg or 4.98%.
Airlifting 13.06 million kg or 4.35% of the total lot was Panalpina World Transport (Phils)., Inc., which slipped one rank to seventh place, while Kuenhe & Nagel, Inc. remained in eighth spot with 8.24 million kg for a 2.75% market share.
Making the biggest improvement in CAB’s 2015 list was DHL Express (Phils.), Inc., which leapt 13 notches to ninth place with 6.99 million kg or 2.33%. Rising four places to 10th was U-Freight Philippines, Inc. with 6.84 million kg or 2.28%.
Rounding off the top 30 air freight forwarders for 2015 were UPS-Delbros Transport, Inc. (6.70 million kg); Federal Express Pacific, Inc., (5.72 million kg); Expeditors Philippines, Inc. (5.41 million kg); NNR Global Logistics (Phils.), Inc. (5.02 million kg); UPS SCS (Phils.), Inc. (4.54 million kg); Dimerco Express Philippines (4.33 million kg); World Alliance Freight (4.31 million kg); AAI Worldwide Logistics, Inc. (3.97 million kg); Skylink Company, Inc. (3.38 million kg); CFS International Movers Corp. (3.15 million kg); Airspeed International Phils., Inc. (2.92 million kg); Sky Freight Forwarders, Inc. (2.72 million kg); Royal Cargo Combined Logistics (2.66 million kg); Manila International Freight Forwarders (2.24 million kg); SDV SCAC (Philippines), Inc. (2.22 million kg); Non-pareil International Freight & Cargo (2.20 million kg); Kornet Express, Inc. (2.19 million kg); Hankyu Hanshin Express Phils., Inc. (2.08 million kg); WPL Wen-Parker Logistics (2.02 million kg); and Polaris Express Logistics Corp. (2.01 million kg).
CAB said that as of January 2016, there were 383 registered air freight forwarders, 254 of which were solely international, 33 purely domestic, and 96 operating both international and domestic services. – Roumina Pablo
