id-100340065Projects entailing civil works at six airports in Visayas and Mindanao, with an estimated total cost of P703.441 million, are in need of takers.

In an invitation to bidders, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the projects mostly involve asphalt overlays and a few upgrades at the airports of General Santos, Masbate, Surigao, Ozamiz, Tagbilaran, and Virac.

All, except General Santos which is an international airport, are principal domestic airports.

With the highest budget of P267.445 million is the Ozamiz Airport project that includes the asphalt overlay of its runway. The Virac Airport and Tagbilaran Airport development projects also entail asphalt overlays of runways, with respective budgets of P75.726 million and P60.061 million.

The Surigao Airport and Masbate Airport development projects, with budgets of P162.562 million and P75.849 million, respectively, include asphalt overlay of the runway and shoulder grade correction. Expansion of apron and construction of drainage and storm drain are required in the P61.797-million General Santos Airport development project.

Submission and opening of bids for the Ozamiz, Tagbilaran, and Virac airport projects is on October 17 while the deadline for the General Santos, Masbate, and Surigao projects is on October 18.

Aside from these, DOTr hopes to bid out soon the operation and maintenance of five other airports, which include Davao, Laguindingan, Panglao (Bohol), and Iloilo, with the view to making them more efficient.
