The Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) collected P38.32 billion in August 2017, up 16% from the P33.1 billion recorded in the same month last year but 1.37% lower than the P38.856 billion target for the period.

Initial data from BOC showed that only eight of the 17 collection districts surpassed their targets. These are Batangas with P9.748 billion (P8.71 billion target), Legaspi with P21.8 million (P21.7 million target), Iloilo with P237.8 million (P213.7 million target), Tacloban with P27 million (P18.9 million target), Surigao with P3.1 million (P1 million target), Cagayan de Oro with P1.21 billion (P1.21 billion target), Davao with P1.353 billion (P1.16 billion target), and Clark with P118.5 million (P112.2 million target).

Manila International Container Port remains as the highest contributor with P11.793 billion in collection, which is lower than the P11.981 billion target for August. Tax expenditure fund—paper payment of state agencies to BOC—only reached P48 million, P102 million short of the P150 million target.

The BOC data, however, did not show the collection from the port of Aparri, which had a target of P11.6 million in August.

For the first eight months of 2017, BOC collected P285.3 billion in revenues, 12% up from the P254.6 billion recorded in the same period last year, but below the P296.9 billion target for the period.

BOC is tasked to collect P468 billion for 2017. Earlier, Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said the agency must collect P50.1 billion monthly from September to December to reach the target.
