President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed five new officials to the Bureau of Customs (BOC), including Noel Patrick Prudente who will head the Management Information System and Technology Group (MISTG) as deputy commissioner.

Duterte signed the appointment papers of Prudente, Jeoffrey Tacio, Yogi Filemon Ruiz, Adzhar Albani, and Fernandino Tuason on Feb 6.

Prudente, formerly a director of the Philippine National Railways, replaced former deputy commissioner Gerardo Gambala, who tendered his resignation from the BOC last year. Duterte subsequently appointed Gambala as a director at the Office of Transportation Security under the Department of Transportation.

Tacio has been appointed director of the Import Assessment Service, Ruiz as director of the Enforcement and Security Service, and Albani as director of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service. Tuason, meanwhile, replaces Carmelito Crisologo, who was formerly with the Post Entry Audit Group.

Tacio, Ruiz, and Albani were former officials of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, which Customs commissioner Isidro Lapeña headed prior to his appointment at the BOC. Tuason has been with BOC for years and headed CIIS during the time of former Customs commissioner Rozzano Rufino Biazon.
