Transport and logistics company Schenker Philippines, Inc. has successfully delivered the 100-ton tunnel boring machine of Italian company CMC Di Ravenna.
Named Veronica, the machine will be used to excavate tunnels to pave the way for the Angat Water Transmission Improvement Project (AWTIP).
Veronica was designed and constructed by CMC Di Ravenna, which tapped Schenker Philippines, a subsidiary of global logistics solutions and supply chain management firm DB Schenker, for the delivery.
Schenker handled the cargo delivery from the Port of Manila to the site in Bulacan. The tunnel borer was received by the Schenker-CMC team and cleared with the Bureau of Customs before being carried on a truck to Bigte, Norzagaray, Bulacan.
Veronica is key to the completion of AWTIP, a project of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System. AWTIP aims to improve supply of water and rehabilitate the transmission system from Ipo Dam to La Mesa Dam. Through AWTIP, a new tunnel will be built between the reservoirs of Ipo and Bigte to help address the increasing demand for water in Metro Manila.
The delivery of Veronica was inaugurated in a ceremony held in Norzagaray, Bulacan on February 5. The event was participated in by Schenker’s Dennis Canapi (global projects head), Erick Pulad (business development manager), Joel Andres (global projects coordinator), Jennifer Alcano (senior business development manager), and CMC Di Ravenna president Salvatore LaValle.
