Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific Air will begin operating on July 1 its international flights to and from Cebu from the newly inaugurated Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Terminal 2 (T2).
Domestic flights to and from Cebu will be retained at the MCIA Terminal 1 (T1), the airline said in a statement. MCIA’s Terminal 2, envisioned to be the world’s first resort airport, was inaugurated last June 7.
With the new terminal, starting July 1 at 2 a.m. all international flights will be moved to Terminal 2 while all domestic flights will remain in Terminal 1.
Cebu Pacific will join 21 other carriers with international flights to and from Cebu in the resort-themed passenger terminal.
The carrier’s last inbound flight to utilize MCIA Terminal 1 will be Cebu Pacific flight 5J 129 (Incheon-Cebu), with expected time of arrival at 1:40 a.m. on July 1. All other flights that will utilize MCIA Terminal 2 are Cebu-Narita, Cebu-Hong Kong, Cebu-Incheon, and Cebu-Singapore.
The airline said shuttle buses will be transporting passengers between MCIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 every 10 minutes.
Cebu Pacific said it is currently the largest carrier operating at MCIA with 385 flights weekly. Cebu is one of its six hubs in the Philippines and the largest after its Manila hub. From Cebu, Cebu Pacific mounts direct flights to Manila, Clark, Davao, Puerto Princesa, General Santos, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Bacolod, Ozamiz, Tacloban, Surigao, Butuan, Camiguin, Siargao, Legaspi, Dumaguete, Tandag, Calbayog, Pagadian, Zamboanga, Dipolog, Incheon, Hong Kong, Narita, and Singapore.
Terminal concessionaire GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. started construction of the new terminal building in June 2015 to reduce airport congestion and increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity from 4.5 million passengers per year to 12.2 million.
