Cargo volume handled by international air freight forwarders grew 5.6% in 2018 to 368.737 million kilograms (kg) from 349.030 million kg in 2017, according to data released by the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).
Of the total, consolidations accounted for 40.9% or 150.932 million kg, which is 1.5% down from the 153.197 million kg handled in 2017.
Breakbulking, which contributed 38.6%, increased 12.8% to 142.414 million kg from 126.242 million kgin 2017. The remaining 20.45% were direct shipments, which likewise improved, going up 8.3% to 75.39 million kg from 69.591 million kg.
Nippon Express Philippines Corp. remains on top in terms of handled volume of international air freight forwarded, keeping the spot for 10 straight years. This despite Nippon Express not yet providing its November and December 2018 statistics to CAB during the release of the data. Nippon Express handled 53.998 million kg of air cargo in 2018 or 14.64% of the total.
Yusen Logistics Philippines, Inc. climbed two places to rank second in 2018 with a 5.91% share or 21.789 million kg of air cargoes. Schenker Philippines, Inc. also jumped two places to third spot with 20.351 million kg or 5.52% share, replacing Trans-global Consolidators, Inc., which dropped to fourth place with 18.686 million kg.
Leapfrogging 12 places to fifth was Kuehne & Nagel, Inc. with 17.339 million kg while DHL Global Forwarding (Philippines), Inc. declined four places to sixth in rank with 16.353 million kg. UPS Delbros Transport, Inc. remained in seventh spot with 10.297 million kg, followed by Panalpina World Transport (Phils.), Inc. in eighth for handling 9.638 million kg.
Expeditors Philippines, Inc. airlifted 8.876 million kg, dropping three places to ninth, while U-Freight Philippines, Inc. with 8.815 million kg improved two places to 10th.
Ranked 11th to 20th on CAB’s top 30 list were Kintetsu World Express, Inc. (7.358 million kg); DHL Express (Philippines) Corp. (7.238 million kg); “K” Line Logistics (Phils.), Inc. (7.214 million kg); DSV Air & Sea, Inc. (6.897 million kg); Keihin Everett Forwarding Company, Inc. (6.613 million kg); Federal Express Pacific Ltd. (5.778 million kg); NNR Global Logistics (Phils.), Inc. (5.769 million kg); AAI Worldwide Logistics, Inc. (5.72 million kg); CEVA Logistics Philippines, Inc. (5.428 million kg); and Dimerco Express Philippines, Inc. (5.407 million kg).
Completing the list from 21st to 30th place were TYCS Logistics International, Inc. (4.359 million kg); Bollore Logistics Philippines, Inc. (3.883 million kg); Agility International Logistics, Inc. (3.86 million kg); World Alliance Freight, Inc. (3.81 million kg); Aspac International, Inc. (3.764 million kg); Polaris Express Logistics Corp. (3.555 million kg); Hankyu Hanshin Express Philippines, Inc. (3.223 million kg); UPS SCS (Philippines), Inc. (3.14 million kg); CFS International Movers Corp.
