Construction of the 27-kilometer Cavite section of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) project has started and is slated for completion in 2020.
The Cavite segment, which broke ground on March 27, forms part of the 45-kilometer CALAX toll road project that will reduce traffic congestion along Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway and Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road, and reduce travel time from Cavite Expressway to South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) by about 45 minutes.
The P35.425-billion CALAX is a four-lane toll road project which starts from CAVITEX in Kawit, Cavite and ends at the SLEX-Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna with eight interchanges and one main toll barrier. It also has a bridge component of 12,207 meters inclusive of 4,618 meters of viaduct.
The Laguna segment, which commenced in June 2017 and is also slated for completion in 2020, involves construction of an 18-kilometer new road from Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to the existing Mamplasan Interchange of SLEX in Biñan, Laguna.
The Cavite segment, on the other hand, is 9 kilometers longer than the Laguna segment and starts from CAVITEX Connection in Kawit, Cavite to Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange.
CALAX is being implemented by private concessionaire MPCALA Holdings, Inc., an indirect subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corp., a public-private partnership scheme. MPCALA in 2015 won the contract, which has a concession period of 35 years and includes five years for design and construction.
