Clark International Airport (CRK) will resume operations at 4 pm today (April 24) following more than a day of shutdown after sustaining damages from a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that rocked parts of Luzon Island on April 22.
“Clark airport is business as usual, from counters to manifest to boarding gates,” Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) president Jaime Melo said in a press conference on April 24.
This is after clearing operations and repairs, specifically on the damaged pre-departure area, have been completed, while power, flight information systems, and CCTVs have been fully restored.
On Tuesday evening, cargo carriers FedEx and UPS already serviced flights via Clark.
“Actually, may (we already have) test flight kami just to ensure that the systems are functioning as per the standards of the airline,” Melo noted.
However, Melo said all damaged structures, including the control tower, will be fixed in a month’s time.
The airport’s runway and taxiway were not damaged by the earthquake, whose epicenter was located at Castillejos, Zambales.
Passengers are reminded to check and coordinate with their respective airlines for confirmation of their flight schedules, as well as compensations pursuant to the Air Passenger Bill of Rights.
