The Supply Chain Management Association of the Philippines (SCMAP) has partnered with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for a survey to assess the state of the Philippine supply chain, and help SCMAP better understand the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
“There’s a lot of data out there but that data has not been aggregated and analyzed, and understood, and no insight has been generated from that data,” PwC Philippines executive director for deals and corporate finance Raoul Villegas said in a speech during the launch of the survey at SCMAP’s recent general membership (GMM) meeting.
The survey focuses on current warehousing requirements, growth estimates, and other supply chain metrics.
“There’s a need for all this critical information for all supply chain stakeholders,” SCMAP president Christine Pardiñas told PortCalls on the sidelines of the GMM.
She noted that association members usually ask for data needed for company planning, but while some are available, specifics needed by the industry are lacking.
Pardiñas said the association will use data from the survey to “work on very specific programs” that can make an impact in the industry.
Information to be extracted from the survey will be used initially by association members but can also be shared with government to aid in policymaking.
“In supply chain, the best way to improve is to have the case to prove it. How do we improve our industry, our sector, if we don’t have the numbers to back our case up?” SCMAP marketing manager Henrik Batallones pointed out.
Batallones said data from the survey can be compared with information PwC has on other countries in the region for benchmarking and aiding in policy and decision making.
SCMAP, in a statement, said the partnership comes at a time when interest in supply chain knowledge is high, as various data-gathering initiatives from the public and private sectors get underway.
The survey will be sent to SCMAP members across the country starting June 27, though survey sheets were already provided to attendees of the June 20 GMM.
The initial results of the survey will be revealed and discussed during SCMAP’s 2019 Supply Chain Conference to be held on September 19-20, while the full results will be unveiled during the GMM on November 21.
