The westbound portion of Marcos Bridge in Marikina is closed to traffic for four months starting August 26 to allow for road repairs, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
MMDA general manager Jose Arturo Garcia, Jr. said the closure makes way for the repair and rehabilitation of the bridge’s westbound portion.
Meanwhile, the eastbound part of the bridge, which had been closed since May, is now open to vehicular traffic.
“After less than three months of repair, motorists going to Antipolo can now utilize the eastbound portion of the bridge,” Garcia said.
The zipper lane will be implemented on the eastbound side for those going out of Marikina due to the larger volume of vehicles especially during rush hours.
While the westbound portion is closed, trucks and motorists are advised to take alternative routes.
For trucks going from Cubao to Antipolo: from Cubao, take Aurora Blvd., then make a right turn to Katipunan Ave., take service road of Libis Underpass, make a left turn to Boni Serrano then straight to FVR Road, take Macapagal Bridge then Sumulong Highway to Antipolo.
For light vehicles going from Cubao to Antipolo, take Aurora Blvd., then make a right turn to Katipunan Ave., take service road of Libis Underpass, make a left turn to Boni Serrano and take FVR Road straight to Macapagal Bridge then Marcos Highway to Antipolo. Meanwhile, MMDA said the closure of Aurora-Araneta Intersection in Manila will push through on August 24 after the contractors had encountered technical difficulties.
The intersection will be closed from 11p.m. to 5a.m. for seven consecutive nights and will remain passable in the morning.
The closure, originally scheduled for August 15, will be implemented to give way to the launching of the girder for the Skyway Stage 3 Project.
The intersection will fully reopen on August 30.
