The Bureau of Customs (BOC) took in revenues of P303 billion in the first half of 2019, 0.7% less than the P305.058-billion target for the period.

The January to June 2019 collection is, however, 8.6% higher compared to the P279.388 billion earned year-on-year, data provided by BOC to media in a recent press briefing.

Based on preliminary report by BOC’s Financial Service, 10 of the 17 collection districts were able to hit their targets, namely, Aparri, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Limay, San Fernando, Subic, Tacloban, and Zamboanga.

On a monthly basis, BOC was able to hit its monthly targets for January, April and May.

BOC is tasked to collect P677 billion in 2019, a figure Customs commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero earlier said was doable with the strict implementation of customs rules and regulations; correct valuation/assessment of commodities and taxes due; streamlining of processes and enhancement of computer systems to facilitate trade and eliminate opportunities for corruption; daily monitoring and close supervision of collection; and strict enforcement of border control measures to eradicate smuggling and boost revenue collection.
