Budget Philippine airline Airphil Express will likely launch a new international service in May to help boost revenues to between P10 billion and P11 billion this year from P8 billion last year.
“We want a 70-30 mix by introducing more international flights,” Airphil senior vice president for marketing and sales Alfredo Herrera said last week after the launch of new domestic flights to and from Clark International Airport (CIA), two hours north of Manila, beginning March 29.
“Right now, we are about 90% domestic and hopefully we could get new flights to international destinations in May, depending on the entitlements,” Herrera said.
Singapore and Hong Kong are the only international destinations the airline currently services.
Last year, Airphil ferried 4 million passengers, up 122% from 1.8 million in 2010.
By the third quarter of the year, Airphil will take delivery of two more Airbus A320s and another two by year-end.
Meanwhile, Airphil Express has tied up with Genesis Transport Service, Inc for an express bus services between CIA and Metro Manila.
Genesis’ Airphil Express Clark service allows Airphil passengers disembarking at CIA and bound for Manila to take Genesis buses from a priority lane. Passengers bound for Airphil flights at CIA can catch the bus at the Genesis Cubao/EDSA terminal.
Bus services are aligned with Airphil schedules.
“There is a need to step up the game in the context of transport convergence and partnerships between and among transport companies to provide multi-modal transport services,” the companies said.
