Domestic and international vessel traffic to ports controlled by Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) in southern Philippines declined in 2011.
Domestic shipcalls slid 0.51% to 73,491 from 73,865 in 2010.
There were less shipcalls for all vessel categories that called at Cebu ports in 2011.
Calls by conventional ships declined 16.46% from 14,901 in 2010 to 12,448 in 2011.
Under this category, calls by bulk carriers dropped 2.93% and breakbulk carriers by an even greater 18.7%.
Calls by local containerized cargo vessels, however, grew 19.09% from 833 in 2010 to 992 in 2011.
Roll on-roll vessels, the most commonly used in the local trade, inched down 0.17% from 25,042 in 2010 to 24,999 last year.
International shipcalls dipped 4.71% from 956.
Calls by foreign bulk carriers declined 8.20% from 488 to 448 calls; breakbulk carriers dropped 2.87% from 174 calls to 169; and international containerized cargo ships declined 1.09% to 271 from 274 calls.
Last year no cruise ships called Cebu compared to two in 2010.
For 2011, total volume at Cebu ports reached 25.365 million metric tons (mmt), up 5.4% from 24.056 mmt registered in 2010.
Container traffic totaled 538,200 twenty-foot equivalent units, 8.27% more than 497,062 TEUs handled in 2010.
