I had a sudden domestic problem just before the press deadline on Saturday. A water pipe in my garden broke and sprung a strong leak. Having experienced before the effect of a strong leak on my water bill, I knew I had to get it fixed asap. The plumber did a good job, and fast. This enabled me to rush this column.

I will now focus on SCMAP’s April 26 two-part blockbuster.

Part 1. Soft Skills Seminar

This is a seminar to be conducted by Ateneo professor Ninoy Rollan, in cooperation with UniMac Business Consultancy.

The idea of soft skills seminars is that while logistics personnel need to be proficient in technical skills, we need to complement these skills with soft or behavioral skills. Technical skills would include the likes of warehousing, transport management, inventory management, performance measurement. Soft skills would include leadership, supervision, coaching, etc.

The schedule is Thursday, April 26, 8:00 am – 12:00 noon. The venue is the Astoria Plaza, 2nd floor, Broadway Room.

Slots are still open. Open to SCMAP members (P2,000) and non-members (P2,500). Fee covers certificate, morning snack and lunch.

Part 2. Second GMM of the Year

As a GMM it includes regular items in the agenda:

• Induction of New Members (Webcast Technologies, Rustan Supercenters, Ana Liwag, Luz Bayan)

Highlight is a special presentation by SAP Philippines, host for the day. The topic is: Improve Supply Chain Effectiveness by Measuring and Managing Performance.

The speaker will be Cas Brentjens, Regional SCM Pre Sales Practice Lead, SAP APJ. He is a supply chain professional with a wide range of experience in developing best in class SCM strategies and solutions in different industries like retail, automotive, aerospace, consumer packaged goods, pharma, electronics & high tech and global logistics.
