Changi Airport of Singapore reflected the current downturn in most export markets worldwide by registering a 4.9 percent drop in cargo traffic for April this year compared to the same month a year ago.
The company reported in a press statement that cargo volume handled at the airport went down to 148,200 tonnes during the month as exports declined by 9 percent year-over-year.
On a rolling 12-month basis, Changi Airport moved 1.86 million tonnes of cargo, a growth of 1.3 percent.
Last March, Changi Airport recorded cargo traffic of 163,000 tonnes, a decrease of 1.8 percent from March 2011.
Changi Airport serves 100 airlines operating some 6,200 weekly flights connecting Singapore to more than 220 destinations in 60 countries.
