The Philippine unit of low-cost carrier AirAsia is seeking regulatory approval for traffic rights to Vietnam and Indonesia.
AirAsia Philippines has filed two separate petitions with the Civil Aeronautics Board for the grant of traffic rights to Saigon, Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh Airport) and to Jakarta, Indonesia (Soekarno-Hatta International Airport).
The applications are pursuant to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Multilateral Agreement on the Full Liberalization of Passenger Air Service and ASEAN Multilateral Agreement on Air Services, which are both precursors to the target ASEAN Single Aviation Market.
AirAsia Philippines is petitioning for 2,520 seat entitlements each for the Manila-Saigon and Manila-Jakarta routes.
Both applications will be heard by CAB on January 22, which is also the deadline for opponents of the application to submit their position papers.
AirAsia Philippines, which recently named veteran pilot Captain Dexter Comendador as its new president and chief executive officer, currently has services to 11 domestic destinations and four international routes.
