Two shipping lines serving the Asia-Europe lanes have announced general rate increases (GRIs) effective September 15 this year, while another carrier is poised to impose a peak season surcharge on the same trade lane from August.

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) said freight rate for the westbound traffic from Asia to Europewill be increased by US$275 per 20-foot equivalent unit (TEU). The GRI will cover shipments from the Far East (except Japan), the India Subcontinent and the Middle East to North Europe, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, the Hong Kong-based liner said.

Israel-based Zim Integrated Shipping Services is also slated to implement GRIs on the Asia-Europe as well as the Europe-West Africa trades:

Asia and Indian Subcontinent to Europe, Mediterranean and Black Sea – $225 per TEU

Southbound from North Europe toWest Africa – EUR110 per TEU and EUR200 per 40-foot equivalent unit (FEU)

Southbound from theUK toWest Africa – GBP100  per TEU and  GBP175 per FEU

Meanwhile, United Arab Shipping is enforcing a peak season surcharge on cargo moving from Asia toNorth Europeeffective Aug. 15. The planned surcharge on dry and refrigerated cargo will be $250 per TEU.
