Listed Philippine port operator Asian Terminals, Inc. (ATI) has taken delivery of two rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTG), beefing up its cargo-handling fleet at the Manila South Harbor.

ATI’s latest acquisition is part of its initial P1.8-billion capital outlay for the port this year which includes the rehabilitation of Pier 3.

Pier 3 now has extended crane rails and expanded back-up container storage areas within the pier enabling Manila South Harbor to accommodate more and bigger ships.

Manufactured by Abu Dhabi-based Trans Gulf Port Cranes, ATI’s new RTGs can stack up to six containers high with a safe working load of 40 tons each.

The RTGs are equipped with modern features and eco-RTG drive controls which optimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions, for faster, safer and more environment-friendly stacking operations at ATI’s current 1.2 million twenty-equivalent unit-capacity container terminal.

More equipment are scheduled to arrive at Manila South Harbor early next year, including a high-capacity ship-to-shore crane, additional RTGs, loaders, internal transfer vehicles and other operation critical port equipment.
