Jim Barber is incoming UPS International president

UPS International’s president, Dan Brutto, will retire at the end of April and will be replaced by Jim Barber, currently president of UPS Europe and a 28-year company employee, United Parcel Service announced in a written statement.

Brutto, 56, is a 38-year veteran and the architect of UPS’s international strategy for the past five-and-a-half years.

In his new position, Barber, 52, will join UPS’s management committee, comprised of the company’s 10 most senior executives.

Group chairman and CEO Scott Davis said Barber will play a key role in expanding the company’s international business by introducing innovative services, deploying leading technologies, and improving profitability.

Davis said, “We remain bullish on Europe for the long term and we are near completion of the three-year expansion of our main European air hub in Cologne. In addition, we are well positioned in Asia and other regions of the world.”

Barber joined UPS as a delivery driver in Georgia, United States, in 1985. Since 2004, he has been a senior executive on the international management team. He has served in key operational and financial positions, including president of the UK & Ireland district and chief operating officer for UPS Europe.

He was promoted to his current position as president of UPS Europe in July 2011. Based at the region headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, he is responsible for all operations in more than 120 EMEA countries and territories.
