Sixty-nine new customs police agents have finished their training and are set to join the ranks of the Philippine Bureau of Customs’ Enforcement and Security Service (BOC-ESS).
The new police agents, who are part of “MAALAB (Mga Alagad ng Aduana Laban sa Anomalya ng Bayan) Class of 2019, have completed their 100-day training on Basic Enforcement for New Employees, which started on October 8, 2018.
ESS is part of BOC’s Enforcement Group, which exercises police authority to secure Philippine ports and BOC installations, and protect cargoes and properties inside the customs zone.
The batch’s five topnotchers are Anthony Escandor, Abdurauf Mukaram, Michael John Martinez, Rejie Ladero and Kristel Rocero, BOC said in a statement.
“Our work in the BOC requires vigilance, professionalism and judiciousness. To help you as you embark on your career here at BOC, you have to do your best, apply your skills and expand your capabilities in order to ensure that you contribute to the overall objectives of your unit and the Bureau as a whole,” Customs commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero said in a message to the new graduates on April 22.
Guerrero also reminded the new agents to work as a team, the BOC team, and to be mindful of their actions and be judicious and transparent in their interactions and transactions. This is because every decision they make has repercussions for the unit they serve, the department they are part of, and the bureau they are now working for, he added.
“Our work has always been at the center of scrutiny and curiosity; with that in mind, let integrity be the keyword that keeps you grounded, that sets the tone for your work as a professional and as a public servant,” Guerrero stressed.
Immediately after graduation, the new customs police force will report to their respective port assignments in Metro Manila. After the election ban, they will be deployed under BOC’s X-ray Inspection Project and be called to aid in the agency’s fuel marking program.
