THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) is seeking exemption from the Commission on Elections ban on appointment/transfer of government officials so it can push through with a reshuffle of key collection personnel.

The ban began January 10 and is in effect until June 9, 2010.

The reshuffle is aimed at boosting revenues at the bureau. Last year, the BOC incurred a collection shortfall of close to P54 billion compared with its target of P273.3 billion.

Under the reshuffle, Port of Subic collector Marietta Zamoranos will be transferred to the Port of Manila to replace Atty. Rogel Gatchalian. The latter will assume the post of Manila International Container Port (MICP) district collector.

Long-time MICP collector Adelina Molina will be assigned to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to replace Atty Carlos So who will be transferred to Batangas.

Batangas collector John Tan will be assigned to Cebu to replace newly appointed collector Ronnie Silvestre who will be moved to Davao.

Earlier, the BOC also effected changes involving Port of Manila chief Jose Yunchongco who dropped his position as district commander but remained chief of the Customs Police Department and deputy director of the Enforcement and Security Service. Capt Ramon Policarpio, who was previously assigned in Subic Bay, will replace Yuchongco at the Port of Manila.
