The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency have stopped attempts to sneak into and out of Ninoy Aquino International Airport illegal drugs worth an estimated P2 million.

The BOC foiled the entry of 960 pieces of ecstasy with an assessed value of P1.440 million, misdeclared as amino supplements. The parcel originated from Germany and was consigned to a Cavite-based recipient.

Separately shipped with a bicycle were 53 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, valued at P265,000 bound for Saudi Arabia from Quezon City. Also concealed in leather shoes were 16 grams of shabu amounting to around P80,000 and bound for Europe.

“We have recommended immediate issuance of a summary decision of forfeiture against the shipments. Parallel investigation is ongoing and, consequently, the filing of criminal charges against the perpetrators and their cohorts, if warranted,” Enforcement Group deputy commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno said in a statement.
