Two containers of misdeclared pork and other meat products estimated to be worth P3.5 million have been seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) at the Port of Manila.

The pork and other meat products were confiscated on October 28 after a 100% physical inspection of the containers on October 25 showed they contained products different from those declared by the consignee.

Based on the initial report, the shipment arrived at Port of Manila on October 12 from China, and was declared as tomato paste and vermicelli and with declared duties and taxes of P288,576. It was consigned to Jeniti International Trading and was processed by customs broker Arlene De Mateo Gonzales.

BOC said the shipment was tagged “red” in the agency’s selectivity system, and was subjected to 100% physical examination on October 25 which resulted in the discovery of the misdeclared products.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the shipment on October 28 for violation of Section 1400 (Misdeclaration, Misclassification and Undervaluation in Goods Declaration), in relation to Section 1113 (Property Subject to Seizure and Forfeiture) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
