FedEx Express is promising faster pick-ups and transit times in the Philippines, after upgrading wireless scanning technology within its operations in the Southeast Asian country.
The company has replaced its FedEx SuperTracker handheld courier devices with the FedEx PowerPad, which it has been rolling out across the globe since its first introduction in the United States in 2002.
The latest version of the PowerPad features bluetooth wireless technology and a GPRS connectivity network to provide FedEx couriers with information even while away from their delivery vans.
Boost for FedEx services in Philippines with tech upgrade
FedEx said the PowerPad’s scanning and transmission technology means wireless access to the FedEx network, and almost real-time access to information improving shipment visibility for customers.
FedEx has now deployed more than 4,000 PowerPad devices in the Asia Pacific region, from Austrialia and New Zealand to Japan and Korea, as well as key markets like Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Rhicke Jennings, FedEx Express managing director for the Philippines and Indonesia, said: “The rollout of the FedEx PowerPad in the Philippines helps us drive greater operational efficiency, produce cost savings and deliver even better service to our customers.”
“We at FedEx believe that the information about each shipment is as important as the delivery of the package itself, which is why we invest in technologies such as the PowerPad, that give businesses the ability to see and understand – in real time – how they should respond to changing markets,” added Jennings.
Along with the PowerPad, FedEx is rolling out the use of Intermec SF51 scanners at its FedEx Stations, which it says can offer 20% faster scanning rates and a 90% improvement in bar code capture compared to the previous system.
The system should improve productivity, the company said.
