Travelers from Mindanao can now avail of direct flights from Davao to Hong Kong with the launch of Cathay Dragon’s five times weekly service.

Hong Kong-based Cathay Dragon (previously Dragonair) operates the Hong Kong-Davao-Hong Kong route five times weekly every Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays utilizing an Airbus A320 aircraft.

The inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Davao’s Francisco Bangoy International Airport (Davao International Airport) on October 28 was welcomed by Philippine transportation and local government officials, as well as representatives from the private sector.

“I am very happy that the people of Hong Kong and the people of Davao and Mindanao are finally connected through this new route. Operating at five times every week, this connection will surely open tons of opportunities for the city of Davao and Hong Kong in terms of trade and tourism. This is truly a momentous occasion,” transport undersecretary for aviation and airports Manuel Antonio Tamayo said in a statement.

Cathay Dragon, whose home airport is the award-winning Hong Kong International Airport, is the premium, full-serviced regional airline of the Cathay Pacific Group.

On the same day, Northern Palawan’s San Vicente Airport also opened its regular flights from Clark through Philippine Airlines (PAL). The inaugural flight from Clark International Airport arrived at San Vicente Airport at 8:17 a.m. carrying 75 passengers on board. PAL will be flying twice a day to San Vicente, a development expected to boost tourism in Palawan and make it more attractive to foreign tourists.

Meanwhile, Palawan’s main air hub, Puerto Princesa International Airport, also welcomed on October 28 the inaugural flight of Eastar Jet from Incheon, South Korea at 12:05 midnight carrying 156 passengers on board.
