Terminal operator and developer Cathay Pacific Services Limited (CPSL) officially launched the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal, worth HKD5.9 billion (US$760.8 million) on February 17.

The cargo facility went  into full operations in October 2013 following a phased approach beginning in February 2013.

“Cathay Pacific has worked tirelessly to develop the Hong Kong hub for both passengers and air cargo, and we continue to make huge investments—in the terminal and in new aircraft—that will boost our city’s competitive edge,” said Cathay Pacific chief executive John Slosar.

“The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal is one of the world’s biggest, and also most sophisticated, and will help to sustain Hong Kong’s position as a preferred air cargo hub in the region.”

CPSL chief executive officer Algernon Yau said: “Efficiency and reliability have always been the cornerstones of airfreight industry. Combined with advanced technology and dynamic team, the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal is established to add simplicity and flexibility to meet the increasingly demanding customers’ needs.”

The new terminal is a common air cargo facility serving all airlines operating at HKIA. It has an annual handling capacity of 2.6 million tonnes and offers customers the benefit of extended cut-off times, last-minute cargo acceptance, and a reduced connection time for transshipment.
